Welcome to Better Together Challenge. These Terms of Service explain the rules for using our website and beta product. By using the website or participating in the beta, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or participate in the beta.

Section 1: About Better Together Challenge

Better Together Challenge is a beta-stage web application for two-player goal tracking and accountability. Players create or join a challenge, set personal goals, log daily progress, and track individual and shared scores over a configurable number of days. The app is hosted on Vercel and uses Supabase for data storage. It is currently available for invited beta participants only.

Section 2: Beta Status

The website and app are currently in beta. Features may be incomplete, changed, removed, or updated without notice. Data loss, bugs, or service interruptions may occur. Participation in the beta does not guarantee continued access, future versions, paid features, or any specific functionality. The product may be paused, renamed, rebuilt, or discontinued at any time.

Section 3: Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the Better Together Challenge beta. By using the app you confirm that you meet this requirement.

Section 4: How Access Works

Better Together Challenge does not use traditional user accounts or passwords. Access to a challenge is managed through two credentials stored on your device:

— Room Code: a short code that identifies a specific challenge, used to locate the challenge when accessing from a new device.

— Player Access Code: a unique code that identifies your player role within a challenge. This code is private and should not be shared with anyone other than for legitimate recovery purposes.

These credentials are stored in your browser's local storage. If you clear your browser storage, you will need your Room Code and Player Access Code to recover access. The app does not currently offer account recovery via email.

Section 5: Beta Notice Acknowledgement

Before creating or joining a challenge, users are required to read and accept a beta participation notice. This notice covers the beta status of the product, the 18+ requirement, restrictions on sensitive information, safe and consensual use requirements, and agreement to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. The acceptance is stored on your device. If the notice version changes, you will be asked to accept the updated version.

Section 6: User Responsibilities

By using the app you agree to:

— Use the app only for personal, non-commercial goal tracking and accountability.

— Choose only goals, rewards, and forfeits that are safe, legal, and mutually and willingly agreed to by both participants.

— Not enter medical, financial, confidential, or highly sensitive personal information into any free-text field.

— Not attempt to access, modify, or interfere with another couple's challenge data.

— Not misuse, copy, resell, or redistribute the app or its content without permission.

— Communicate respectfully when contacting us.

Section 7: Goals, Rewards, and Forfeits

Players choose their own goals, rewards, and forfeits within the app. Better Together Challenge does not prescribe, recommend, or endorse any specific goal, reward, or forfeit. You are solely responsible for the choices you make and their consequences.

Do not choose any goal, reward, or forfeit that is unsafe, illegal, harmful, coercive, non-consensual, or that could cause physical, emotional, or financial harm. All participation must be voluntary and mutually agreed upon by both players.

Section 8: No Real-Money Transactions

Better Together Challenge does not facilitate real-money betting, gambling, wagers, or peer-to-peer payments of any kind. Any financial arrangements between players are entirely outside the scope of this app and the sole responsibility of the users involved. The app does not process, hold, or transfer money.

Section 9: No Professional Advice

Better Together Challenge does not provide medical, fitness, nutrition, mental health, relationship, legal, or financial advice. Nothing in the app constitutes professional advice of any kind. You are responsible for your own choices, health, safety, and wellbeing. Consult a qualified professional before making decisions that could affect your health, finances, or relationships.

Section 10: No Guaranteed Outcomes

We do not guarantee that using Better Together Challenge will improve your habits, relationship, health, productivity, or any other outcome. Results depend entirely on your own choices, effort, and circumstances.

Section 11: Third-Party Services

The app uses third-party services including Vercel for hosting, Supabase for database storage, Google Forms for beta applications and feedback, and Gmail for email communication. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, security, or availability of third-party services. Each provider operates under its own terms and privacy policy.

Section 12: Intellectual Property

The website, app, name, content, copy, structure, and related materials are owned by Better Together Challenge or its creator unless otherwise stated. You may use the app for personal beta testing only. You may not sell, copy, publish, distribute, or claim ownership of the materials without written permission.

Section 13: No Warranties

The app is provided as-is and as-available during the beta period. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, reliability, availability, or fitness of the app for any particular purpose.

Section 14: Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Better Together Challenge and its creator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or other damages resulting from your use of the app, your choice of goals, rewards, or forfeits, or any agreements made between players. You use the app and participate in the beta at your own risk.

Section 15: Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
